Protect Women's Sports - The facts
Yes, everyone is fed up with women's sports being invaded by untold amount of boys and men which is totally wiping out female athletes from every single event. How many males are pushing women out of sports ?? Millions and millions.
Lets find out exactly how many so that there is some real numbers we can throw around and support that position.
Before I do that, what is my personal position on women's sports ? I think women's sports in the 2000's especially post 2010 is very strong. In some cases there are more women's teams than men's. Soccer is getting huge by the year with two more NWSL teams being added, safe to say, I only watch women's soccer and women's sports in general. OCR (obstacle racing) has a significant female participation level and frequently beat cisgender men. The winter Olympics, Poland didn't have a men's bobsleigh team, but the women did. So as far as I am concerned, women's sports can stand on it's own two feet. I am a realist, if something is pink, it's pink, i don't try and paint it orange to suit me.
I started doing some research and looked at how many boys and men were in women's sports. The grand total is zero. Yes, there apparently aren't any. This was a little confusing as I gathered from all the Facebook memes and posts from people that men had taken over women's sports en-mass. So I looked a little harder.
Oh, now I see the problem, everyone is confusing genders. The assumption was that MEN were the same as TRANS-WOMEN, they aren't.
But, anyway, why we're here, lets just for kicks and giggles crunch the numbers of how many TRANS-FEMALES there are out there and in women's sports and therefore for real, what is the true threat to women's sports, if there are millions, then okay, at the end of this blog will be ONE MILLION. You can go take this blog and share it, facts will be facts right ?
I work in information technology and have been since leaving high school at age 15 after enrolling in college for two years from age 13 to 15. Age 16 I started working in information technology at Union Bank of Switzerland. So I understand facts and data.
I will be adding as many references as reasonable, but where the information is readily available online, I will just use the raw numbers as you can just find them yourself and verify.
If you want, you can just skip past ALL the below narrative, calculations and facts, go to the end and see the magic total, either zero, 10, 50, 1000 or millions, depends on your attention span.
How many high schools are there in the US including private – 27,000
The average student body per high school is 690-750
Total amount of high school students currently enrolled in the US is 17.3 million
CDC stats for 2023 show 3.3% of high school students are trans-gender (this does not indicate whether that is self identifying, under medical supervision or on medication)
Given the above, that is roughly 591,000 trans-gender students.
How many trans-female students ? There are roughly 50/50 half are trans-female, the other trans-males. As we are focused on women's sports, that is 286,000 trans-female students.
How many trans-female students per average high school ? No more than around 10.
As of 2024-2025 3,539,596 girls competed in high school sports, this is roughly 40 percent of the high school enrolled female students in the US.
So if we then assume the same percentage of trans-females wanting to compete in sporting events, that would equal 4 students per school with 140 cisgender female students also competing.
The events from these statistics aren't known. But given the dozens of sports available at high school level, it's quite obvious the trans-female student participate in VERY FEW. So we are talking about 3% of the female sports group is occupied with trans-females.
EDIT - as as 2026 the current estimation of trans-gender high school student participation in sports is 12% which based on the above data resolves down to likely only two trans-gender athletes, i.e. 1 "ONE" trans-gender female per school, who likely isn't guaranteed to excel. Therefore also only 1 trans-gender boy. Going forwards, I will still be using prior stats which are likely going to show abnormally higher participation.
How many of these trans-female high school athletes actually won a competition ? That number isn't available as a statistic. As a side note, googling this will bring up some false number of 900. this is a number based on professional medals won, but, its totally wrong. That number comes from two databases that has considerable duplicated data and is anonymous user supplied and not verified. The only verified source is a trans-gender international sports body that records athletes and competitions. It shows just 27. Ever in multiple decades of competitions, tens of thousands of competitions.
Now lets get some things in perspective, right now we are just talking about high school, as such, this entire event of 'high school' is a learning process, kids are having fun, they are just getting the building blocks situated, does high school 'count' ? Not a whole bunch in the global scheme of things. So, lets move on to college then and see what exactly is happening there, plus in college sports we may actually have some decent statistics available. Maybe there are more trans-gender female students that are going to invade the sporting world of women.
How many high school students enroll in college ? 62%
The williams institute shows not more than 400,000 enrolled in college, but this is somewhat of a guess.

If we assume that 62% of trans-female high school students move on to college, then its 62% of 286,000 which is 177,000 trans-female college students out of 10.7 million non-trans students, or 5.5 million cisgender female students. This is still around 3% college population.
If we apply the same percentage of students active in athletics, then there are 7,000 college students that are trans-female participating in competitions across the US.
HOWEVER – this is were the rubber hits the road. While ALL the above is calculated using average stats available, we do have the NCAA database available. They have the EXACT number of ACTUAL trans-gender athletes competing in college level sports.
So right now we have some real'ish numbers, not millions, but potentially thousands.
What does the NCAA say ?
Well, in 2024/25, NCAA President Charlie Baker stated that there were FEWER than 10 trans-gender athletes competing in college athletics out of around 500,000.
How many are trans-female ? Rough guess, half of those. So, what is that ? 5 or less.

The real results ...
Okay, what is the overall point of "protect women's sports" ?? to protect it from what exactly. 5 college students that are trans-female ?? Lets have that sink in a minute, all the time spent online arguing about MEN in WOMENs sports (and we know trans-women are NO WHERE close to MEN as far as physical ability), you are arguing about 5 people ? Okay, I did say 5 or less, so maybe you can count all these people on less than one hand ?In total there have been only 47 trans-gender athletes in college level competitions - EVER.

The 47 athletes are mixed gender trans-female, trans-male.
19 were trans-female, this includes everyone favorite, Lea Thomas. 28 were trans-men, i.e. Men who transitioned from women. So these 19 athletes were NOT just from last year or the year before, but multiple prior years, actually about 2 decades.
Professional sports, how many of those college athletes turn pro ? Around 1% - maybe. There aren't any official figures for how many trans-female athletes turn professional, but if it's still 1% then out of maybe less than 10, maybe not even one each year, which accounts for the very limited amount of trans-female athletes in professional sports, as far as real numbers, there aren't any concrete US numbers, or in fact WORLD numbers, but, it's estimated to be as low as 15-20 at any one time.
The NCAA estimates there are 238,000 professional female athletes in the US, given that there is only 0.002% of athletes in college that are trans-female, then that results in around 5 professional trans-female athletes in the US, but given there are usually only 10 in college and less than 1% go pro, however you slice it and dice it, the numbers are so low you count on one or two hands.
I am sure at this point you are saying, well, no matter how low the number, it's too many. Well, yes, you can say that, but that would be a silly argument wouldn't it. And as Obi Wan once said "Only the Sith deal in absolutes".
One other noteworthy point is that contrary to the popular narrative, trans-female athletes just don't win that often, just go ask the NCAA.
There are dozens and dozens of medical studies available to go in to detail as to why trans-female athletes do not have significant advantages over cisgender women, in a nutshell it comes down to what effects estrogen has over the human body as it adjusts various DNA functions to female from male, such as hemoglobin. This completely changes to female function in only 3 months !
Skeletal and other seemingly obvious advantages do not have any significant impact.
The other thing about the hemoglobin function being lowered to cisgender female is the face that the body of a trans-gender woman still maintains the same volume of blood, this is not changing even though the hemoglobin count has, this therefore diminishes her capability even more by promoting significantly more fatigue. The opposite is true of a trans-man who has less blood volume to oxygenate. So with that reduced muscle mass, most trans-women cannot compete at all, there are just a few outliers that people know of, Lia Thompson, Laurie Hubbard, that's it. Lia was college only.
The important fact to understand is that cisgender male is NOT the same as trans-female, cisgender male is NOT the same as trans-male, cisgender male is NOT the same as cisgender female, trans-female is NOT the same as cisgender female. However, what group is more alike ?
It's more often trans-female and cisgender-female. Even trans-men who were born female are more physically MALE than trans-women are due to testosterone hormone therapy.
So as promised, those are the facts, if you want to dispute them, you can try. However, the math doesn't lie, the data held by the US Government related to student counts, the CDC, the NCAA, and lastly the myriad of medical studies, the are facts and thus, don't lie.
Are women's sports endangered ? No, it's growing rapidly without borders or hindrance.
Maybe, now you know the facts, skip the arguments and do something more productive, like protecting women from cisgender MALES dosed up on testosterone, last year there were 680,000 assaults on women by those “real-men” in the US - go fix that problem.
Or if you want to stick to high school issues, school girls are assaulted 8,000 times a year by cisgender MALES or in fact, in some cases cisgender women. Maybe go fix that problem.
Trans-gender people hardly make a statistical blip on the map related to those issues (Yes there were maybe 5 recorded events by the criminal justice system in the UK last year – yes FIVE).
Again, the research is out there, just go look.

Latest on the IOC SRY testing ...
It don't work. I have been saying since it was announced - it ain't gonna work.
Well, here is why ...
It is possible to have the SRY gene and be a biological female. While the SRY gene is typically located on the Y chromosome and acts as the primary switch to trigger male development in the embryo, biology is complex and can result in "sex reversals".
So if we test for the SRY gene, are we going to get false hits - YUP.
